Galway Tourism - Experience the Heart and Soul of Galway with Our Unforgettable Tours

Discover Galway's Rich History & Vibrant Nightlife on our Walking Tours

The Tribes Tours of Galway are built on the experience of our guides and feature our favourite aspects of the city. We strive to show you the best of Galway, with some historical facts, stories and of course tips, all in order to make sure you enjoy your visit to the fullest. Whether it is on the Walking Tour, to discover the history of the City of the Tribes, or the Pub Crawl, to experience the nightlife, we are sure you will soon understand why we love Galway so much.

For that reason, we have chosen to run our Walking Tour of Galway following the Free tour model. Initially developed in 2003 by Chris Sandeman, this concept puts power back into the hands of the visitor by allowing guests to support and reward the highest quality tours and making sure that the experience fits within their expectations, and budget.

Instead of paying to book in and join the walking tour, you can instead follow our guide and leave a tip at the end of your walk that reflects what you thought of the tour, and how much you think it was worth. It keeps us motivated to give you the best we have to offer, and ensures you have a great time in Galway!

FAQs About Our Free Walking Tours of Galway City

If you can't find an answer to your question, don't hesitate to Contact us.

What kind of tour is the Free walking tour?

On the Free walking tour, our tour guide will give you an introduction to Irish and Galwegian history to give you some context about the city, and will then take you through the streets of our great city. You will get to see the main attractions, hear some of the famous stories of Galway and get the best tips to eat out.

What time does the Free walking tour start?

The Free walking tour runs twice a day from April to September, at 11:00am and 2:00pm.

From October to March, there is only one tour per day, at 11:00am.

Both of these start outside the Skeffington Arms pub on Eyre Square.

How long is the Free walking tour?

The Free walking tour lasts for about 90 minutes, allowing extra time for questions.

How can I join the Free walking tour?

We encourage everyone to book the tour online through Fareharbor, which you can do by clicking the book now button on-screen. You can meet us outside the Skeffington Arms, but we cannot guarantee there will be a place on the tour as we have limited capacity.

Who can join the Free walking tour?

We do not take group bookings of more than 8 people on our Free walking tour as we have found that they change the experience of other tour participants, particularly if the group are non-native speakers or groups of school students. We offer private tours at a reasonable rate to these groups where we give a bespoke tour suited to the needs of the group.

What is the Pub Crawl?

The Pub Crawl is the best way to discover the Galway night life. This tour will take you to 5 venues, including a late bar at the end of the night, with some free shots, drinking games and great craic along the way!

Where and when does the Pub Crawl start?

The Pub Crawl starts outside the Skeffington Arms pub on Eyre Square, according to your booking, but usually at 7.55pm.

How do I book a Free walking tour or a Pub Crawl?
